Singapore

The ‘Lion City’ had such an allure with us we visited the island-state three times during the year and each time it was totally worth it.  Perhaps not as cost-effective as many of its Southeast Asian neighbours, having a reputation in the region as being expensive, still we found ourselves drawn there more often than we had imagined.

Perhaps being conscious of its size, it is a purposefully garden-filled country.  It is hard to turn your head in Singapore without seeing a park or greenery of some type.  The history of Singapore also is quite an attraction, having been such an important port through the past centuries.  There are many fine museums here, notably the National Museum of Singapore as well as the Asian Civilisations Museum.  For a history tour the kids will really enjoy, the ‘Battle Box’ tour in Fort Canning is definitely worth the trip.  This is all without mentioning the Marina, Raffles Hotel, Gardens by the Bay, and of course Sentosa Island.  Our kids had a great day at Kidzania on Sentosa Island, a theme parke where the children become the adults, working, earning money, and other activities.  There is so much on Sentosa of course, including the world-class aquarium and Universal Studios!
